Exhibition/Architecture Design Master course

You have graduated with a Bachelor's degree in a design discipline and have some professional experience in the field. You now want to go one step further and expand your understanding of spatial communication with contextual and methodological skills, whilst at the same time contributing significantly to the theoretical discussion surrounding objects, exhibitions and museums. Then we are your first port of call.

The Master course lasting four semesters and culminating with the degree "Master of Arts in Exhibition Design" is research-oriented and non-consecutive.

The Master course is run by the Exhibition Design Institute (edi), a joint research institute run by the Department of Design and the Peter Behrens School of Architecture (PBSA). The Master course introduces you to complex spatial concepts and design systems, strategies and solutions. Alongside an attractive locational advantage with multifarious career prospects, we also offer international collaborations and meaningful, practical projects for cultural institutions and enterprises.
You will not only be involved in extensive design research projects (research with design and research through design) and in spatial experiments, but will also receive targeted preparation for a doctorate under academic and scientific aspects.

An object of research is the medium exhibition or 3-dimensional communication. A "spatial laboratory", which serves as a platform for experimental and scientifically founded, formal spatial research, is likewise tied into the programme. This project platform serves as an independent means of presentation and testing for innovative accesses and solutions. Complex information and communication rooms are created here, which refine and further-develop classic forms of draft design.

The team of Düsseldorf lecturers from the fields of Architecture and Design with individual character and multiple linkages to practice and research stands beside you with commitment, empathy and enthusiasm.

You are based in Düsseldorf as a melting pot of art, culture, design, music, advertising and fashion. The close interlacing of the course with the cultural and working environment of the city, the region and its international networks offers you a variety of opportunities for vocational orientation. The field requires expert concepts and drafts: Temporary Exhibition, Permanent Exhibition, Brand Museum, Showroom/Shop, Experiment/Avant-garde and Public Room.

The "Exhibition Design" Master course is closely linked with the four Master courses "Communication design", "Interior architecture", "Architecture" and "Applied Art and Design" in an interdisciplinary manner. A dedicated process to establish suitability decides upon your admission to the Master course.

The course starts in the Winter semester of each year.
